DUPLESSIS ORPHANS TO PROTEST AT THE ANNUAL PREMIERS' CONFERENCE

The Duplessis orphans will be protesting in front of the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City, site of this year's Annual Premiers' Conference, on Tuesday, August 10th, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The conference is being hosted by Premier Lucien Bouchard, who has turned a deaf ear to the orphans' plight. The demonstration is meant to bring attention to the grave injustice which the Duplessis orphans are victims of. The Premiers' Conference, held annually to discuss, among other matters, provincial/federal relations, seems the perfect place to highlight a tragedy essentially brought about because of the Quebec Government's attempts to unlawfully profit from federal subsidies for the care of its orphans. It is thanks to a hush deal made by Premier Maurice Duplessis, in collaboration with Quebec's Catholic Church and the medical community at the time, that thousands of normal children had their medical records falsified to label them as mentally deficient. Because of this horrific hoax, thousands of normal children were brought up in psychiatric hospitals subsidized by the federal government. The victims were not only subjected to a life of torment through physical and mental abuse but were also deprived of a basic education.
